The CAATE accredited, undergraduate ATEP is offered by the Department of Human Movement Sciences (housed within the College of Health Sciences) in cooperation with the Athletics Department and Norris Student Health Center. The ATEP recently was re-accredited in 2007 for 5 years and has a current enrollment of approximately 40 students. Graduates of the ATEP successfully pass the BOC examination at a first-time pass rate well-above the national average and have been placed in entry-level positions as well as graduate schools across the United States. The ATEP has strong support from community affiliates such as area hospitals, clinics, high schools, colleges, and professional sports organizations.

ATEP faculty/staff includes 3 Ph.D. trained, tenured or tenure-track faculty, a clinical coordinator (open), and 8 full/part-time ATC’s. All of the ATEP faculty/staff provide varying degrees of athletic training services, contribute to classroom instruction, and supervise undergraduate students. UWM has 15 NCAA Division I athletic teams and approximately 270 student-athletes. The athletic training staff also provides services to the general student body through the student health center.

The Department of Human Movement Sciences is made up of 29 full-time faculty and academic staff members, and offers B.S. and M.S. degrees, and the College of Health Sciences offers a multi-disciplinary Ph.D. in health sciences. The multidisciplinary human movement science M.S. program is offered to students who include, among others, practicing allied health professionals, and educators. Several ATC’s have completed the M.S. Kinesiology program, and 2 ATC’s are enrolled in the Ph.D. program. Departmental instructional/research facilities include Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Motor Control/Learning, Psychology, and Sociology. The Department of Human Movement Sciences also offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. A new facility for sports medicine and athletic training and physical therapy education was completed in January 2006.
